Deputy Sheriff Billy Grimsley succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on December 7th, 2012, after representing his agency in the Poquoson Christmas Parade. He was returning to Portsmouth when he was involved in an accident while riding his department motorcycle.
Deputy Grimsley had served with the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office for over 15 years as both an auxiliary deputy and full time deputy. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, sister, and three brothers.
Billy Ray Grimsley, 59, of the 600 block of Elmhurst Lane died Sunday, February 3, 2013 in a Portsmouth hospital. A native of Corpus Christi, TX, he was a deputy with the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife, Robin M. Grimsley; a daughter, Kimberly Grimsley Boone and husband Steven J. of Suffolk; a son, Nicholas James Grimsley and his fiancée Emily Holland of Suffolk; a sister, Janice Sandefur of Chesapeake; three brothers, David and Richard Grimsley, both of Portsmouth and Dan Grimsley of Suffolk.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 7, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. and following the graveside service at 2629 Greenwood Dr., Ports. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Dept. Auxiliary Fund.
