Sergeant David Elahi was struck and killed by a drunk driver while he and two other officers were conducting a traffic stop on US Highway 165, approximately two miles south of Louisiana Highway 134, at approximately 5:00 am.
All three officers were standing on the shoulder of the roadway when an approaching car crossed over the fog line and struck them. Sergeant Elahi was pronounced dead at the scene while the other two officers were transported to a local hospital with injuries.
The drunk driver was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, improper lane usage, and a move over law violation.
Sergeant Elahi had served with the Sterlington Police Department for five years. He is survived by his child and fiancee.

David was killed in the line of duty at 4:45 AM, July 3, 2016 while conducting a traffic stop in Sterlington, LA.
David was a sergeant with the Sterlington Police Department, as well as a local business owner and real estate investor. David was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and Foundry United Methodist Church of Sterlington. David took pride in protecting and investing in the community in which he resided and loved.
David is survived by his pregnant  fiancé, Donna Parsley; his 2 year old daughter Alba Elahi; and an expected child due in January 2017. David also leaves behind his mother, Teena Elahi; father, Marcus Elahi; and a host of family and friends.

Elahi, of Monroe, was standing between the fog line and the rear of his vehicle interviewing a subject around 5 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by Tracy Govan, 44, of Monroe. According to a Louisiana State Police release, Govan was impaired when his vehicle crossed the fog line and hit Elahi and two other officers.

Elahi was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.

Sterlingotn Mayor Vern Breland said Elahi was conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 165 southbound approximately two miles south of Louisiana 134 when he was hit by the vehicle. The other two SPD officers were transported to an area hospital but were released with minor injuries.
