Deputy Sheriff Tase Sturgill suffered a fatal heart attack while he and other members of the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office were developing a new physical assessment test for the department’s Emergency Response Team.
He and other deputies had just completed a run at Waverly Central High School when he suddenly collapsed. Deputies and EMTs were unable to revive him.
Deputy Sturgill had served with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Deputy Sheriff Tase Sturgill passed away tragically of what appeared to be a sudden heart attack. Sheriff Davis stated that Tase and other members of the Sheriff’s Office had met at the Waverly Central High to work on a physical fitness program for the agency when he became ill and lost consciousness. Waverly Police Department , AMR and Air Evac all arrived on scene and made an all out effort to revive Sturgill but was unable.
Tase came to our agency with a vast knowledge of law enforcement and a history in corrections as well. He was our departments training officer and also served as our jail administrator. Tase was better known by many as our agency’s Handgun Carry Permit Instructor.
Arrangement will be visitation as follows:
Hurricane Chapel Church
Friday 7/1 5pm to 8 pm
Saturday 7/2 10am until 2 pm
The funeral will be at 2 pm at the church. The graveside service will be a short distance from the church.
There will be an escort procession on Friday 7/1 at 3pm leaving Luff Bowen in Waverly carrying Tase to Hurricane Chapel Church located off Hwy 70 just east of McEwen on North Hurricane Creek Rd.
