Deputy Sheriff Michael Winters succumbed to injuries sustained the previous day when he was thrown from his horse while on a special detail at the Memorial Day Parade in Quincy, Michigan.
He suffered a severe head injury when something spooked the horse, causing it to buck. He was flown to a hospital in Indiana where he was taken off of life support the following day so his organs could be donated.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office sadly reports that on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at approximately 13:45, Deputy Michael Winter succumbed to his injuries. The family has decided to make the gift of life by the donations of his organs. Deputy Winters will be on life support for the next 24 to 48 hours. Please keep Deputy Winters family in your thoughts and prayers. If anyone wishes to donate to the Winters’ family, donations will be accepted at the Sheriff’s
Office.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Deputy Winters. He will be greatly missed by all of us his co-workers and fellow law enforcement family. We shall always remember him for his service to his country, to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office and to his family.
