Sergeant Karl Keesee was killed in a single vehicle crash on US 84 approximately two miles west of Goldthwaite, Texas.
His patrol car left the roadway and overturned, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.
Sergeant Keesee had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for 25 years and was assigned to Brownwood, Region 5.

A Texas Highway Patrol sergeant died in a car accident Thursday night in central Texas, the Texas DPS confirmed.

Sgt. William Keesee’s patrol car went over a guardrail and into a creek on Highway 84 near Goldthwaite, about 100 miles northwest of Austin. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A driver passing the scene reported the crash around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after seeing debris on the road.

The crash is under investigation.

“The DPS family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of Texas’ finest, Sgt. Keesee. Our state has lost a great man and outstanding peace officer, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this very difficult time,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw.

“During his more than 25 years of proudly serving this department and the people of Texas, Sgt. Keesee touched countless lives, and his selfless service and sacrifice will always be remembered.”
