Deputy Sheriff Craig Whisenand was killed in a single vehicle crash while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Armington at approximately 10:30 pm.
Dispatchers lost contact with him prior to his arrival to the call. Another deputy located the accident scene just before midnight at the intersection of Springfield Road and Tomm Road, in Delavan. Deputy Whisenand was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputy Whisenand had served with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years.
PEKIN — A Tazewell County Deputy was killed while responding to a domestic violence disturbance in Armington Monday night.
Tazewell County Sheriff Robert Huston said Craig S. Whisenand, 44, was responding to the call at about 10:30 p.m. when he lost communication with dispatchers. At approximately 11:58 p.m., another Tazewell County deputy discovered a single-vehicle accident crash at the intersection of Springfield Road and Tomm Road, just north of Delavan.
The deputy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is being investigated by Illinois State Police and the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office. At this time, the cause of the crash is unknown and there are no known witnesses, the sheriff said in a statement.
An Illinois State Police crash reconstruction unit was called to the crash scene but no other details have been released.
Whisenand began his career as a corrections officer at the Tazewell County Jail on April 14, 2000. On Feb. 10, 2005, he was appointed as a deputy sheriff.
