Border Patrol Agent Alexander Giannini was killed in an automobile accident on I-10, near Sybil Road, near Benson, Arizona, shortly after 7:30 am.
Agent Giannini and another agent were traveling eastbound on I-10 when their vehicle was involved in a collision. Agent Giannini was flown to University Medical Center in Tucson, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Agent Giannini had served with the United States Border Patrol for five years. He was survived by his parents, sister, and fiancee.

BENSON, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) – A five-year veteran of Border Patrol was killed in a serious rollover accident that closed I-10 eastbound about eight miles east of Benson on Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol tells KGUN9 that shortly after 7:30 a.m., two on-duty Border Patrol Agents were involved in a single-vehicle accident.

The agents were traveling Eastbound on I-10 near Sybil Road when the accident occurred.

Both Agents were transported to UAMC; one by life flight and the other by ground ambulance.

CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske released the following statement regarding the death of the agent:

"It saddens me to report that the Border Patrol Agent being transported via Life Flight – a 5-year veteran of the Border Patrol — died enroute.
As of this writing, the nature of other Agent’s injuries is not known and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
It is difficult expressing our thoughts and appreciation for their commitment and dedication to the mission knowing that whatever words we draw upon simply will not do justice to the sacrifices they made.  We ask that the citizens of Arizona and the nation join us in thoughts and prayers for the families of these brave individuals."
