Deputy Sheriff William Kelley was killed in a vehicle crash while responding to an accident with injuries call.
He was traveling on Highway 55, south of the South Bypass, when his patrol car hydroplaned and struck another vehicle.
Deputy Kelley had served with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office for eight years.

COVINGTON CO., AL (WSFA) –

A Covington County Sheriff’s deputy who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning is being identified as Deputy Heath Kelly, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Troopers say Deputy Kelly was killed while on-duty when his patrol car and another vehicle crashed around 7:40 a.m. on Alabama Highway 55. The crash was near the intersection of Hwy. 55 and South Bypass.

Troopers say Kelly was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital where medical officials pronounced him dead.

The driver of the second vehicle, a white SUV, was also transported to an area hospital with injuries that are described as non-life-threatening.

Deputy Kelly was en route to a report of a crash with injuries and an overturned vehicle when he lost control and crashed his unit.

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crash, but are not releasing any other information at this time.

WSFA 12 News has a crew on to the scene and is working to confirm additional details.
