Agent Joaquín Correa-Ortega was shot and killed while conducting an undercover arms purchase in a wooded area off of PR-924, in the Pitaya neighborhood in Humacao. He and another agent were at an illegal fair frequently used to conduct the illegal trade of vehicles, horses, and other items.
They were in the process of conducting a transaction with several subjects when they were fired upon. Agent Correa-Ortega was killed and the other agent was shot in the head and wounded.
Four subjects were arrested and charged in connection with his murder.
Agent Correa-Ortega had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 12 years and was assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit. He is survived by his wife and one child.

Superintendent James Tuller of the Puerto Rico Police Department has reported that Agent Joaquin Correa-Ortega, 36, was shot and killed while conducting an undercover weapons purchase.

Agent Correa-Ortega and another agent were in a wooded area off PR-924 in the Pitaya neighborhood in Humacao.

The agents were conducting their undercover weapons transaction when they were fired upon.  Agent Correa-Ortega was killed instantly.  The other agent was shot in the head and wounded.   Other agents responded to the gunfire and four suspects were arrested and charged in the shooting and death of Agent Correa-Ortega.

The location of the transaction is well known for conducting the illegal trade of vehicles, horses, firearms and other items obtained on the black market.

Agent Correa-Ortega had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 12 years and was assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Unit.

The Victor Perez sergeant, who last night was shot in the middle of a police intervention in an illegal fair in the PR-924 highway, the Pitaya neighborhood in Humacao, and in which a policeman died, was brought in this afternoon a second operation in the Industrial Hospital Corporation for the State Insurance Fund (CFSE).

At about 1:45 pm Perez was out of this second surgical procedure.

Initially said the sergeant suffered a gunshot wound to the nose, but Marrero said it was in the mouth area and is not serious.

"The sergeant is in stable condition. Their picture is rather positive. Do not expect any complications. I was lucky," said Marrero.

Sergeant Perez arrived about 3:00 am to the emergency room and taken to the Industrial Medical Hospital, located next to the Centre.

Perez was shot by three men who arrived in a white car to the show, just as the police operation would begin. He got shot in the nose and a hand.

This led to a chase last night of the thugs who gunned down the officers in a nearby dairy. It ended with the death of one of them, which has not been identified by police.

In the morning he arrested one of the suspects wanted for the death of the agent.
