A Eupora police officer was killed Wednesday morning during an accident trying to end a high-speed police chase spanning three counties.

Officer Keith Crenshaw deployed a spike strip attempting to derail a car carrying three robbery suspects across Highway 82. The suspects saw the strip before arrival, and veered into the median where Crenshaw had moved according to procedure, according to Eupora Mayor Dan Burchfield

Burchfield said Crenshaw, 52, was fatally wounded after being hit by the car approximately 10 a.m. He said One suspect was killed, another critically injured and another in unknown condition after the car collied into a light pole.

"Officer Crenshaw was a personal friend of mine and we grew up together," Burchfield said. "I’ve known his family my whole life. He will certainly missed by every citizen of Eupora. He did a fine job, loved his job. He always went the extra mile. It didn’t stop at what was necessary for him, he did everything the community needed."

The three suspects attempted to rob a CB&S bank in Eupora just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. The plot was foiled after employees noticed the suspects in the parking lot and locked the building before they tried to enter, according to Burchfield.

The suspects left Eupora and went northwest to Grenada where they attempted another robbery. Details of this robbery are still unknown.

Mississippi Highway Patrol officers found the suspects in Montgomery County after an APB was put out on the vehicle. The officers followed the vehicle in surveillance mode until the Webster County line.
