Investigator Mike Stockwell was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of the Foley Beach Expressway and County Road 12, in Foley, at approximately 9:00 pm.
His unmarked department vehicle collided with another vehicle in the intersection. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
Investigator Stockwell had served in law enforcement for 20 years.
FOLEY, Ala. (WPMI) Police are continuing the investigation into a fatal accident involving an off duty Orange Beach police officer that occurred around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. The accident happened at the intersection of County Road 12 and the Foley Beach Expressway Officials say Investigator Michael Dale Stockwell was driving home in an unmarked white city police car. One other vehicle was involved and driver of that vehicle was not injured. The investigation by Foley Police is still ongoing. Stockwell was a 9 year veteran of the Orange Beach Police Department. He had also worked with the Baldwin County Drug Task Force. At the time of his death he was working with the Departments Narcotics Unit. His colleagues describe him as a man who loved to teach. Stockwell was known to give firearms training to women in the area and was set to become a full-time training officer in October. Visitation has been set for Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Elberta. Burial will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park on Highway 98 in Foley. Stockwell leaves behind a fiance and two teenage daughters.
