SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer who was hospitalized following an accident earlier this month has died from his injuries, police say.
Edrees Mukhtar died in the hospital on Saturday just before 4:30 p.m. He was 28.
Sgt. Javier Salazar said in a press release that Mukhtar had been with the police department since May 16, 2011.
Funeral arrangements for the officer were not immediately available.
Mukhtar was taken to University Hospital on Dec. 10 following an accident in the 3700 block of Medical Drive.
According to an accident report, Mukhtar was driving eastbound in a Ford Crown Victoria when he drove over a patch of water and hit the curb around 2:40 a.m.
The officer’s vehicle then spun into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a westbound Chevrolet pickup truck.
Mukhtar was rushed to University Hospital with "incapacitating injuries," according to the report.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene of the accident.
