Deputy Sheriff Ricky Issac was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1, south of Highway 120, during a period of heavy rain.
His patrol car hydroplaned as he entered a curve on the roadway. The vehicle left the road, went down an embankment, and struck several trees. Despite wearing his seatbelt, Deputy Issac suffered fatal injuries.
Deputy Issac is survived by his expectant wife.

NATCHITOCHES — Louisiana State Police troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed Ricky Issac Jr., a Natchitoches Parish sheriff’s deputy and a senior football player at Northwestern State University.

The crash occurred on La. Highway 1, south of Louisiana Highway 120, according to State Police.

Issac was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, Natchitoches Parish sheriff’s unit, south on La. 1 around 2:38 p.m. Saturday.

Issac was entering a slight left curve when his car hydroplaned in the rain, went off the road and hit several trees. Issac, who was wearing a seat best, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to Deputy Ricky Issac’s family and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office," said Col. Mike Edmonson, State Police superintendent. "We will work closely with Sheriff Jones and his agency to provide any support they may need as they go through this very trying time."

Issac was on-duty when the crash occurred.

He is survived by his wife, who is pregnant with their first child.

This crash remains under investigation.
