A Surete du Quebec officer has died in the line of duty.

She was rushing to the scene of an emergency near Joliette at 7 p.m. Wednesday when she lost control of her squad car.

The car went off Kildare Row and smashed into a tree in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, destroying the vehicle.

Thursday morning police confirmed that 23-year-old Katia Hadouchi was at the wheel. She was en route to pick up her partner after getting a 9-1-1 call concerning domestic abuse.Paramedics rushed Hadouchi to hospital where doctors worked for hours but were not able to save her life.

Investigators say no other vehicle was involved in the crash. The reason for losing control is not known.

Hadouchi had worked out of the Matawinie office for the past two years.

While her co-workers are in mourning their work will be performed by officers from the surrounding area.
