Police Officer Jason Gresko was killed in a vehicle collision on Harmony Lane while responding to an emergency call at approximately 9:35 pm.
His patrol car collided with a pickup truck and then struck a tree, causing serious injuries. He was transported to Lake West Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Gresko had also served with the Cleveland Clinic Police Department.
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – Willoughby Police Officer Jason Gresko was killed in a crash with a pick-up truck Friday night.
The Willoughby police and fire departments responded to a two-vehicle crash Friday at about 9:35 p.m. A marked Willoughby police cruiser and a 2011 Chevrolet pick-up truck collided on Harmony Lane. After the crash, the cruiser went off the road and struck a tree.
Gresko was taken to Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby where he died from his injuries. The occupants of the pick-up truck were not injured.
Witnesses on scene told NewsChannel 5 that the officer was on his way to a call when the crash happened.
Gresko worked with the Willoughby Police Department and the Cleveland Clinic Police Department.
A spokesperson for the Cleveland Clinic said Gresko had been with the Clinic police for eight years.
Willoughby police will hold a press conference at 3 p.m. Saturday to release more details about the crash.
