Agent Wilfredo Ramos-Nieves was shot and killed as he and five other agents conducted a narcotics operation on Calle 2 in the Juan Sánchez area of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, shortly after 3:30 pm.
As they entered the area the agents observed a man with a gun. Before the agents were able to take action the subject opened fire on them, fatally wounding Agent Ramos-Nieves. The subjects fled the scene but were arrested a short time later.
Agent Ramos-Nieves had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 15 years and was assigned to the Bayamón Drug Division. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Wilfredo Nieves Ramos became the third officer to be killed in the line of duty this year when he was hit by two bullets while participating in a speech yesterday its Division of Drug plots Juan Sanchez, Bayamon.
The agent assigned to the Narcotics Division of Bayamón and 15 years of service in the police force, leaving four children orphaned.
He died at about 3:30 pm after being shot while conducting a surveillance in the company of five officers and a sergeant at a point located on the street drug 2 plots Juan Sanchez.
Watching two people, one with a firearm, the group of agents they were stopped and the individual without a word fired, hitting Ramos Nieves with two shots to the face.
Nieves Ramos died while waiting for the arrival of an ambulance. The scene became his wife, his sister and a minor child.
The two men were arrested around 5:00 pm on the banks of a river near the scene. One of them named Carlos Hernandez Garcia, 28, who was occupied two combs with bullets, had a broken leg. It was not clear under what circumstances the injury, but was transferred Bayamon Regional Hospital Medical Center of Rio Piedras.
The other suspect was identified as Luis R. Oquendo Rodriguez, 41. It was learned that both have criminal record, the second for damages and stolen vehicle.
Oquendo Rodriguez was expected to be taken to the Command of Bayamón.
Visibly contrite and long pauses in speech, the Police Superintendent, Hector Pesquera, confirmed the bad news.
"Unfortunately there was a loss this afternoon by a police official capacity, doing what they do every day, risking their lives," said Pesquera, who presented himself to the place.
While police tried to arrest the individuals, there were moments of tension in the area of ​​crime, when officers were guarding the scene demanded that neighboring plots to stay away from the path of shooting, but were at a distance significant stage.
Amid the shouting and shoving, a neighbor who identified himself as Francisco Torres Hernandez Wilson, alleged that a policeman hit him with the baton in the nose. The first police officer killed this year in line of duty was Berrocales Abimael Castro, who died on January on PR-100 in Cabo Rojo, when a driver shot him to intervene with him for a violation of the Act Transit. This case has not been resolved.
