Millville Police Officer Christopher Reeves was killed in a car accident while on patrol early Sunday.

Investigators say his police cruiser collided with another car at the intersection of 3rd and Broad streets in Millville, around 2:15 a.m. Officer Reeves died at the scene. His partner, Officer Seidel, who was riding in the passenger seat suffered minor injuries.

Reeves was an 8-year veteran of the Millville Police Department, and a husband and father to a 3-year-old boy. His wife, Susan, is also a police officer.

His friends say he always wanted to be a cop. "I like to think he died happy doing what he wanted to do," said Spencer Moore, Reeves’ friend.

Before joining the Millville Police Department, Officer Reeves served in the Marine Corps and also worked with the Millville Fire Department.

A black banner now hangs at the Millville Police Department and all flags in the city are flying at half-staff in honor of Officer Reeves.

The accident is being investigated by New Jersey State Police and the Prosecutor’s Office.
