Agent Victor Soto-Velez was shot and killed from ambush along PR-491, in Camuy, while driving to his home while off duty.
Occupants of another vehicle intercepted him and opened fire at his car, firing at least 15 rounds into his vehicle before fleeing. Despite being severely wounded, Agent Solo-Velez was able to provide a description of the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. The suspect vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames a short time later and the suspects remain at large.
It is believed that Agent Soto-Velez was specifically targeted due to his work as a narcotics agent.
Agent Soto-Velez had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for 15 years. He is survived by two children.

The agent Victor Soto Velez could provide information on their murderers before dying from gunshot wounds he received in an incident reported last night in Camuy.
Soto, 37 and 13 years as a member of the uniformed, was shot last night when he was in his motor vehicle on the La Culvert on the road PR491 in Camuy.
The police commander in the region of Arecibo, James Mont, said they suspected that a burning vehicle near the scene, whether the gunmen because it corresponded to the description offered Soto.
"On the road PR119 towards San Sebastian found a vehicle with characteristics similar to those occupied by the persons who committed this act," he said in an interview with Radio Mont Island 1320.
"The same fellow Soto could describe the vehicle to express his understanding that had caused the facts," he said. "From what little I could say, said the vehicle description," explained the Major.
In this way they could know that Soto was ambushed on his way to his home in his Ford Explorer bus, at a time when he was on vacation.
Mont said they have begun receiving information that the attack itself was directed specifically toward Soto, who was previously had been an agent of the Division of Drugs in Arecibo.
Officer understands that more than one person in the vehicle because the place was found some 15 shell casings of various calibers.
In an interview with WKAQ, Mont added that the investigation progresses because of the incident witnesses cooperating with the authorities.
Further informed that the deceased officer is survived by two daughters of 10 and 19.
