Detective Tina Rambo was killed in an automobile accident on Route 70, in Southampton Township, at approximately 8:00 am.
An oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and struck Detective Rambo’s department vehicle head-on, killing her. The driver of the other car was flown to a nearby hospital.
Detective Rambo had served with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office for 10 years and had previously served with the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department for two years. She is survived by her husband, two children, and three siblings.

A 35-year-old veteran detective of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was killed in a head-on collision Monday morning while she was driving to work in Toms River.

At approximately 8 a.m. Monday State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones said Det. Tina Rambo was traveling eastbound on Route 70 in Southhampton Township, Burlington County when her 2000 Ford Crown Victoria police vehicle was struck by a 2004 Saturn Ion, driven by Rachel Portnoy, 24, of Marlton Township, Burlington County.

Jones said although Portnoy was traveling westbound her vehicle was in the eastbound lane at the time of the head-on collision with Rambo’s vehicle.

Jones said Rambo, of Toms River, was pronounced dead at the scene and Portnoy was medevac’d to Cooper University Hospital, Camden County with serious leg injuries.

A news release from the New Jersey State Police stated that no charges or tickets have been issued at this time. The accident investigation is being led by Troop C detectives, State Police Crime Scene detectives and Fatal Accident Unit detectives.

Rambo was a ten-year veteran of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, a wife to Roy Rambo, Jr., and mother of two children. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters.

Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford released a statement Monday afternoon, regarding the death of Rambo.

Rambo was employed by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office since 2000. She worked first as a prosecutor’s agent and then as a sworn law enforcement officer. Lynch-Ford said Rambo was sworn in as a law enforcement officer almost 10 years to the date of her death– July 30, 2001.

Lynch Ford called Rambo a "valued member of our investigative staff".

Rambo was previously employed as a special police officer in Pt. Pleasant Beach and graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy on May 24, 2000.

At one time, Rambo also worked as a substitute teacher for the Toms River Regional School District, a news release said.

Rambo graduated from Toms River North High School and later in 1996 from Ocean County College.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Rowan University in 1997 and a master’s degree from Seton Hall University in human resources training and development in 2004.

According to a news release, Rambo worked in various units within the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, including, the Narcotics Strike Force; Special Victims Unit; Megan’s Law Unit; the Family Protection Unit (Domestic Violence). She had recently been assigned to the Grand Jury and Trial Unit.

"I along with all members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office extend our deep condolences to the family of Tina Rambo, and mourn the loss of our co-worker, colleague and friend, Tina Rambo," Lynch Ford said in the statement.
