Deputy Willie Cammon was killed in an automobile accident when his patrol car was struck head-on by another vehicle that was illegally passing another car.
Deputy Cammon was traveling on Georgia Highway 100 when the accident occurred. The driver of the car that caused the crash was charged with following too closely, failure to maintain lane, and vehicular homicide.

HEARD COUNTY, Ga. — A pickup truck driver was arrested and charged with following too close after he crashed head-on into a deputy’s patrol car killing the deputy, said a representative for the Georgia State Patrol.

Investigators said Charles Grady Green, 41, of Woodland, Ala., tried to go around another car that had stopped or slowed when his Ford F-150 pickup truck crashed head-on into Heard County Deputy Willie Amos Cammon’s patrol car.

Cammon, 59, of Franklin, died as a result of his injuries. He was traveling on Georgia Highway 100 near Yates Road when the collision happened.

Green was not injured.

In addition to following too closely, Green was charged with failure to a maintain lane and vehicular homicide in the second degree.
